Everton round-up: Digne done, Williams wanted and Rodwell training

A selection of the latest news and gossip from Everton.

Digne arrives

Everton have finally completed the transfer of Lucas Digne from Barcelona. After a week or so of negotiations the Toffees have snapped up the French international on a deal worth around £18 million.

A former PSG, Roma and Lille player, he has made the move from La Liga champions Barcelona.

Digne has signed on a five-year deal and will provide competition for the veteran left-back Leighton Baines.

Williams wanted

Stoke City want to sign Ashley Williams from Everton. The Welsh international is apparently a target for the Potters, according to the Daily Mail.

Stoke are hoping to win promotion back to the Premier League this summer and see Williams as the perfect option to strengthen their backline on the cheap. A loan deal is being proposed but the sticking point looks to be the 33-year-old’s £65,000-a-week wages.

Everton are set to sell the Welshman this summer. The veteran had a poor campaign last season and is not popular with the fans.

Rodwell back

Former Everton player Jack Rodwell is training with the club. The midfielder is out of contract having left Sunderland this summer after an ill-fated stint with the club.

Rodwell is training with the under-23s in order to remain fit after failing to win a contract at Watford.

The 27-year-old was one of Everton’s brightest prospects when he left for Manchester City in a £12 million deal six years ago.

Since then injuries and poor form have plagued the former England international.
