Everton are said to be in the hunt for Red Bull Salzburg’s talented teenager Hannes Wolf this summer. The Mirror reports that Everton are tracking the 19-year-old, who had a breakthrough season in Austria last term.
The 19-year-old played 45 times last season, bagging 12 goals and eight assists in a fantastic campaign for the club, who made the Europa League semi-finals.
Therefore, Everton are right to be pursuing the player this summer.
But if they did manage to get hold of him, they should loan him straight back to Salzburg.
Everton already have excellent options in the position that Wolf would want to occupy. Gylfi Sigurdsson looks like being a main man next term. Meanwhile, Davy Klaassen may be a forgotten face but is still an option at the moment. Everton also have youngsters of their own who can play in the position. Kieran Dowell and Tom Davies will both want to get first-team chances at Goodison Park next season.
Wolf is an excellent talent and the sort of player that Everton should be targeting under their new management regime.
But he would struggle to get into the Everton first-team next season and would therefore risk stagnating at the club.
Securing his services for the future would be an excellent piece of business for Everton, but letting him head out back to Salzburg on loan would allow him to continue his progression and become a top player.
