Everton are reportedly interested in signing St. Etienne winger Denis Bouanga and the winger has admitted in the past that he wants to emulate Arsenal skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – after the Gunners ace advised him to join St. Etienne.
Aubameyang is an icon at St. Etienne after scoring 41 goals in 97 appearances for Les Verts – as well as laying on 25 assists. Gabon teammate Bouanga joined the Ligue 1 side last summer, and starred during his first season with the club.
Indeed, Bouanga scored 12 goals and created five more – proving absolutely pivotal to St. Etienne’s fight against relegation. That has alerted Everton, who are reportedly interested in luring Bouanga to the Premier League.

The latest report from French site Le10Sport claim Rennes have made a £10.7million offer to sign Bouanga, but St. Etienne are stalling on that offer as they wait for Everton to bid. They want around £13.3million for Bouanga.
A fleet-footed, twinkle-toed winger with an eye for goal, Bouanga spoke of how he dreamed of emulating Aubameyang after joining St. Etienne last summer – and following St. Etienne’s Twitter announcement, Aubameyang replied in July 2019.
“Aubameyang gave me some good advice, it gave me even more desire,” Bouanga told Le10Sport last summer. He will remain an icon here, I’m just starting. I hope to follow in his footsteps, I aspire to do the same. He’s an example here.”
Aubameyang’s Tweet is translated as: “He won’t disappoint you.”
TBR’s view – Could Everton sign their very own Aubameyang?
Different positions, Bouanga is very much a winger while Aubameyang is best used up front. However, there are similarities. Boath boast blistering speed and plenty of tricks, while also scoring more times than not.
At a bargain £13.3million, Bouanga would be an excellent signing for Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton – especially with Theo Walcott set to enter the final year of his contract. Though he may not be like Aubameyang positionally, he could have a similar impact.
