Everton reportedly want Celtic star that dreams of playing for Liverpool

Everton are one of four Premier League sides interested in signing Celtic defender Kris Ajer this summer, rivalling the likes of Manchester City, Wolves and Leicester – despite the defender once stating his dream was to play for Liverpool at Anfield.

Football website 90Min have stated that 22-year-old Ajer is attracting plenty of interest from down south. Brendan Rodgers, who masterminded his early progress at Celtic, is leading the race for his signature despite huge competition.

Everton, Wolves and Man City are keen, as are European giants Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain. Ajer has starred for Celtic in his 129 outings in green and white – but his agent has told The Record that he will leave this summer.

The Toffees are likely to be after a central defender with only Mason Holgate, Yerry Mina and Michael Keane as options. But the £27million-rated (Sporten) defender was once quoted as saying that he dreams of playing for Liverpool.

When Ajer was quizzed about his ultimate dream as a footballer he said: “It is to walk out on Liverpool’s home ground, Anfield, and hear the supporters singing You’ll Never Walk Alone,” The Record’s report read, in 2016.

TBR’s view – Ajer a top signing for Everton, if they can tempt him

It is clear that Ajer is certainly favours Liverpool over Everton if he was to pick a Merseyside club, but Everton need a central defender and putting aside loyalties to certain clubs – a move to Everton for Ajer would be the next logical step.

Everton certainly need Ajer. Losing Phil Jagielka and Kurt Zouma last summer, Everton failed to bring in even one centre-back. Holgate has impressed, but Mina and Keane are more than capable of the odd mistake.

Bringing in a player such as Ajer would add cover and quality that is only going to get better. Can Everton convince him to move to Goodison Park? It remains to be seen.
