Any incoming business at Everton on transfer deadline day would appear to revolve around the striking position. One rumour that has been doing te rounds is that of a £35 million move for Michy Batshuayi. The Liverpool Echo has, however, suggested Everton have no desire to make that move happen.
On the one hand, that is a blow to Everton fans. The club clearly needs another central striking option. On the other, many might have felt that, at that price, Batshuayi was grossly overvalued.

So what about a much cheaper option who could provide Everton with some added firepower?
The player in question is Southampton striker Charlie Austin.
As reported by Sky Sports, Austin could leave today if an appropriate permanent offer is made for his services. So far that has not been the case. As reported by Wales Online, he could be available for as little as £8 million this month with Ralph Hasenhuttl ready to let him go.
At that price, Everton should surely consider a punt on Austin. His presence would allow Everton to play Richarlison out wide and keep Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin out of the starting XI. There are no current reports suggesting any Everton interest in the player. However, Everton should surely consider changing that fact.
Austin, who scored a double against Everton in November 2017, may not be the flash striker some might want at Everton. But if Everton were to dip their toe in the final hours of the transfer window, this cheeky punt could prove a bargain buy.
