Back in January, it looked as though Everton might lose midfield general Idrissa Gana Gueye. Paris Saint-Germain were lurking around the Senegalese maestro. Everton clearly had a fight on their hands to ward off the French giant’s interest.
Everton were also getting potential replacements lined up. One name that popped up was Thiago Mendes.
As reported by La Voix Du Nord in France, Everton agreed a £20 million deal to sign the Brazilian from Lille in January.
The deal was scrubbed out once Everton managed to squash PSG’s interest in Gueye.
However, Le10 Sport are now reporting in an exclusive that Everton have returned.
The report does not name a fee but states Everton have ‘just sent a new offer in’ for the player.
It is likely to be of a similar financial region to the reported £20 million agreement made in January.
The former Sao Paulo star is just hitting his peak at 27-years-old and would be a great signing for Everton, especially if they cannot hold on to Gueye this summer.
Of course, a work permit could prove an issue for the Brazilian who is yet to represent his national team at a senior level.
But this is certainly a transfer story for Everton fans to keep track of. Not just for the excitement of a potential new arrival, but also the future of a key player in Gueye.
