Everton are reportedly interested in signing Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik this summer but may face competition from some London clubs – and The Toffees will be all the more keen to nab the Pole, upon hearing Carlo Ancelotti’s past comments.
Italian outlet Area Napoli have claimed that Everton are interested in signing 26-year-old Milik, who worked under Carlo Ancelotti at the Serie A side. This season, he has scored 12 goals in 22 league and cup appearances.
The report claims Everton are willing to pay £31million to sign the Poland international, while Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis wants as much as £44million for the ex-Ajax and Bayer Leverkusen striker.
However, Everton are not the only Premier League side said to be interested, though. Italian outlet CalcioNapoli24 have claimed that both Tottenham and Arsenal are interested in landing the 49-time Poland international.
Ancelotti worked with Milik for the entirety of his stay with the Serie A giants, and asked about signing Mauro Icardi at the start of the season – the current Everton boss stated Milik is a “more complete” striker that the PSG star.
“Icardi is a great striker like Milik. The Pole, however, is more complete, even if the Argentine scores more in the box. Talking about Icardi diminishes the value of Milik. I am sure we will all be happy on August 31,” Ancelotti said, as quoted by Goal.
Everton do need a striker in a bid to finally replace the loss of Romelu Lukaku. Dom Calvert-Lewin has been in excellent form of late, but signings Moise Kean and Cenk Tosun have failed to match up to their price tags – despite costing £54million.
But Milik, who has proven he can score goals in one of Europe’s best footballing countries and at both Champions League and Europa League level, would be an excellent buy. With Ancelotti in charge, surely they have got to make a move for the Pole.
