Everton have reportedly won the race to sign talented Brazilian youngster Reinier, according to reports in his homeland.

As reported by Esporte Interativo, the Merseyside club have secured a €40 million (£36.7m) deal for the Flamengo player. The deal will be finalised in January, when the attacking midfielder turns 18.

The Brazilian under-17 star has been linked with a host of clubs across Europe in recent weeks so this would represent a significant coup for Marcel Brands and the Everton hierarchy.

As reported by the Daily Mail earlier this month, Manchester City and local rivals Liverpool were also keen on the player. But it seems Everton have managed to pull off a masterstroke by securing this deal.

Of course, Everton fans will begin getting excited when an official announcement is made regarding this deal.

Another source in Brazil, UOL Esporte, has already tempered the initial claims. They suggest no official approach is yet to be made for the 17-year-old, but talks did intensify over the past week.

Reinier, who is yet to make his professional debut for Flamengo, has caught the eye with performances for the Brazilian national youth team. UOL reports he could make his pro debut against Emelec in the Copa Libertadores next week.

Everton will no doubt be hoping they have indeed won the race to sign the player this summer.
