Liverpool ended their 30-year wait to be champions of England this season and finally held the Premier League trophy aloft on Wednesday night – prompting reaction from Everton man Yannick Bolasie, and Tim Cahill.
The Reds climbed to 18 points clear of Manchester City in their second-to-last Premier League outing. A 5-3 win over Chelsea marked a special occasion, before the injured Jordan Henderson lifted the trophy.
Goals from Naby Keita, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Gini Wijnaldum, Roberto Firmino and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain ensured that Liverpool did not lift the trophy after enduring a defeat to Frank Lampard’s side.
Celebrations were aplenty inside and outside of Anfield – the latter of which has received similar criticism to that of Leeds United fans partying at Elland Road – as Henderson held aloft the Premier League trophy.
Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton, meanwhile, sit in the bottom half of the table despite the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as manager. With one game to go, 11th is the best they can do – though they could drop to 12th.
Bolasie reacted on Twitter to the news that Liverpool had secured the Premier League trophy and were finally allowed to celebrate, while Cahill simply posted a picture of himself celebrating at Goodison Park after scoring.
