Everton owned Callum Connolly slammed by loan club’s fans after 6-0 thrashing

Everton have sent out plenty of their young talents on loan this summer. Some have gone abroad, with Jonjoe Kenny heading to Schalke 04 and Fraser Hornby joining Belgian side KV Kortrijk. Others have stayed closer to home, such as former England under-20 World Cup winner Callum Connolly.

The utility player, who can play at right-back or in the heart of midfield, joined Lincoln City on a season-long loan deal the day after the two clubs met in the Carabao Cup last month.

Connolly has previously had loan spells at Bolton, Wigan, Barnsley, and Ipswich but with first-team football looking unlikely at Everton he decided to move to the League One side.

Things started brightly for him. The 21-year-old got an assist on his debut against Fleetwood Town.

However, since then, he has struggled to win over the fans and it came to a head at the weekend. The Imps were thrashed 6-0 at home by Oxford United as they continue to transition after the departure of popular boss Danny Cowley for Championship strugglers Huddersfield Town.

Connolly played the full 90 minutes and struggled to impose himself on the fixture as Oxford run riot. It was a poor display from the Everton youngster and fans of Linclon were not impressed by the performance.

New boss Michael Appleton is now in charge at Sincil Bank and Connolly will hope the former West Brom midfielder takes a shine to him.

For that to happen, Connolly is going to need to perform a lot better than this.
