Everton now reportedly want 'extraordinary' £15m striker who's been likened to Harry Kane

Everton have reportedly set their sights on Chile international striker Ben Brereton Diaz.

The likes of Sky Sports and the Daily Mail wrote about the Toffees and their apparent interest in the Blackburn man.

According to Sky Sports, Armando Broja remains Everton’s top target up front.

However, there hasn’t been much progress in negotiations, so the Toffees boss is looking at alternatives.

Brereton Diaz is reportedly on the Goodison Park side’s radar following a superb season with Blackburn last time out.

The 23-year-old registered an impressive 22 goals and three assists from 37 Championship outings in 2021-22.

Last season, Tony Mowbray told Lancs Live: “Brereton with the ball at his feet is an extraordinary talent.

“He’s a wonderful footballer who can dribble with both feet, take people out of the game.”

Brereton Diaz has hit the ground running this season too, with two goals and an assist en route to top spot.

He is also an established Chile international, having played at the Copa America, and has four goals from 14 outings.

“A newfound air of authority”

Last year, scouting website Breaking the Lines wrote: “He has a newfound air of authority about him.

“In the way he carries the ball, approaches defenders and makes split-second final-third decisions.

“This is the Ben Brereton we’ve been waiting for.”

In terms of price tag, a figure of £20million has been reported, with Blackburn apparently rejecting a £10million bid from Nice this week.

Football.london’s Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold claimed earlier this summer that Rovers may settle for a figure in the middle.

“Spurs have a little bit of interest in Blackburn’s Ben Brereton-Diaz,” Gold said on his YouTube channel two months ago.

“From what I understand, I don’t think there’s been any contact in the last few months. I wonder if that gets resurrected this summer.

“Last year of his contract, he is home grown. Leeds, West Ham, few La Liga clubs looking at him.

“We’re talking between £13million and £15million for him. He would probably be okay with being back-up (to Harry Kane).”

A number of fans on Twitter have compared Brereton Diaz’s style of play to the likes of KaneThierry Henry, and Erling Braut Haaland.

All in all, he seems like a great shout for an Everton side desperate for firepower and steel up front.
