Everton take on Manchester United this weekend, hoping to continue their recent good form under Marco Silva. One of the big decisions that the Portuguese manager has is whether to hand summer signing Yerry Mina his debut.
The Colombian joined the club in a reported £27.2 million deal this summer. It came after his impressive displays at the World Cup and after weeks of negotiations.
But Everton were not the only team after Mina this summer. In fact, Manchester United were also very keen. As reported by the Sun, Jose Mourinho targeted the bullish defender as his options wore thin in the centre-back transfer chase.

The report also confirmed that Mina turned down interest from Manchester United after a personal phone call from Silva himself. Mina, reportedly, was ‘puzzled’ by the lack of contact from the club and Mourinho and felt Everton was, therefore, the better choice.
Mourinho will, therefore, hope Mina does not get his debut and thrive, as it would certainly leave the Red Devils red in the face.
His luck may be in. Mina, who has been injured for much of the season’s beginning, is unlikely to feature. Michael Keane and Kurt Zouma are currently in good form and changing the back-four would seem unlikely from Silva. However, if he decides to go for a back-three, then Mina can show Mourinho just what he is missing.
