Everton need to utilise Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s aerial threat more

Dominic Calvert-Lewin clearly has a role in the Everton squad of an impact substitute, something he did brilliantly at the weekend with a late goal during his three-minute cameo in the win against Bournemouth.

The attacker now has six goals in 22 games across all competitions and can have a bright future at Goodison Park if he continues to develop.

He is still a 21-year-old trying to improve his game and can be a top player if his finishing improves, while his hold-up play still need brushing up on.

But one underrated aspect he has is his threat in the air, something which he’s proven can be the difference for the Merseyside club this season.

The England Under-21 international has scored four of his six goals this season with his head and is a real handful for defenders.

Marco Silva clearly doesn’t fill comfortable in putting faith in Calvert-Lewin yet as his number one striker, but he certainly isn’t using his aerial threat to the full when he plays.

Lucas Digne has assisted three of the centre-forward’s goals with crosses into the box and it should be a plan to get numerous balls in when he’s in the penalty area.

He offers a real physical and powerful presence as the spearhead attacker, which is why he’s so good with crosses into him.
