Everton need Pickford competition, and Tottenham star is perfect

Everton continued their amazing start to 2020/21 yesterday, beating Brighton 4-2 at Goodison Park to keep their 100% record going.

The Toffees were too much for the Seagulls on Merseyside, with James Rodriguez producing yet another stellar performance with two goals and an assist.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side continued a very encouraging trend, playing free-flowing football and creating lots of chances against Graham Potter’s team.

One thing that Ancelotti will wish to improve though is the defensive side of things.

Yerry Mina and Michael Keane were actually very impressive yesterday, but there was unfortunately another error from Jordan Pickford.

The England number one appears to be in need of a proper challenge, and the Toffees should consider a late raid on Tottenham Hotspur.

According to the Telegraph, Paulo Gazzaniga has been made available for transfer – and the Argentine could be worth a punt by Everton.

TBR’s View – Gazzaniga can shake things up

It is crystal clear at the moment that Pickford needs somebody pushing him.

Joao Virginia has promise, but without a true challenger breathing down his neck, mistakes and lapses are theoretically more likely to happen for Pickford.

£20,000-a-week star Gazzaniga (Spotrac) has proven himself a highly capable Premier League goalkeeper when Hugo Lloris has been unavailable, and needs to be considered.

He may not be as good with his feet as Pickford, but the star has showcased a fantastic shot-stopping ability and crucially, hasn’t often made mistakes leading to goals for Spurs.
