Everton must get a move on in their attempts to keep Marcel Brands at the club, as other top clubs in Europe are now starting to get the scent.

According to Il Tempo, as relayed by Sport Witness, AS Roma are considering the Dutchman as their potential future director of football.

The Liverpool ECHO recently reported on the future of Brands and seemed to suggest that Everton would not be considering any talks with the Dutchman until the new year – in line with the club’s official policy. Everton are also said to be confident that Brands wants to remain at the club as he is also a part of the club’s board of directors.

Brands’ current contract expires in the summer and whilst Everton’s superiors appear to be relaxed over his future, it might be worth starting contract negotiations sooner rather than later.

The Dutchman has proven to be a vital part of Everton’s rebuilding process and has been pivotal in securing the transfers of players like Lucas Digne, Ben Godfrey, and Andre Gomes.

His links with huge agents and the prestige he brings also saw him play a big role in bringing Carlo Ancelotti to Goodison Park which helped Everton tempt the likes of Allan and James Rodriguez to Merseyside.

Everton must make sure that this interest from Roma ends up proving inconsequential.
