Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria was a target for Everton last summer, according to The Mirror.
But Marco Silva needs to re-enter the race for Zakaria now that Tottenham have registered an interest.
According to Sky Sports News, Zakaria is one of the midfielders being considered by Mauricio Pochettino this month.
Spurs are looking for a replacement for China-bound Mousa Dembele. And Zakaria fits the bill as a young, promising defensive midfielder.
Pochettino was regularly scouting Zakaria while he was at Young Boys and could move for the Bundesliga midfielder.
But Everton must reignite their interest because Zakaria could be an ideal long-term addition for them.
The towering central midfielder has all the physical attributes to thrive in the Premier League.
And the 22-year-old is getting better with each game he plays for Borussia Monchengladbach.
This season, Zakaria has played 15 Bundesliga matches (eight of which have been starts). In that time, he has made 17 tackles, 12 interceptions, nine clearances and 14 blocks, as per Who Scored.
These numbers show just how much defensive protection the 16-cap Switzerland international provides for the defence.
Idrissa Gueye is deployed in that role for Everton but he will be 30 next season and Telefoot reports that he could move to PSG.
In Zakaria, Everton could find their long-term solution in holding midfield. But they have to act fast to get the Swiss midfielder with Tottenham reportedly keen too.
