Everton must consider revisiting previous interest in Mario Gotze

Mario Gotze’s future at Borussia Dortmund is in doubt. As reported by Football.London, Arsenal are being linked with the German playmaker this summer. With just one year left on his deal at Borussia Dortmund, Gotze could be surplus to requirements at Signal Iduna Park.

The 27-year-old, who scored the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final, has seen his career stall due to injury trouble over the past few years.

So should Everton revisit the possibility of signing the player?

It was reported by Sky Sports News last summer that Everton were keen on the player, along with West Ham and Arsenal.

The report stated that Dortmund would be looking for a fee near £22 million for the player. However, with a year run down on his contract, Everton could certainly try for less.

Everton could certainly use a player of Gotze’s standard in their bid to push into the Premier League top six.

Similar perhaps in style to Gylfi Sigurdsson, he does possess better dribbling. Gotze is also more adept out wide and deeper in midfield than the Icelandic international. Having the luxury of Sigurdsson, Gotze and maybe Andre Gomes to select from as the midfield creative hub would give Everton a huge boost ahead of next season.

At the right price, there is no doubt Everton should at least consider another swoop on Gotze.
