Everton must break the bank once again to solve striking problem

Everton were soundly beaten at Goodison Park yesterday by a resurgent looking West Ham United. The Hammers dominated for much of the game as they came away with a 3-1 win.

However, Everton did have chances to snatch an undeserved point.

Cenk Tosun wasted two chances he should have put away and another, a low drive from outside the box, was tame. His replacement did not do much better. Oumar Niasse managed to hit the bar from six yards out. His overall game after coming on was also poor.

So there is clearly no doubt that Everton have a problem through the middle of attack. Tosun, for all his good qualities, is struggling to find the back of the net and Niasse is simply not good enough. Meanwhile, the likes of Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ademola Lookman are preferred from wide roles.

What Everton need if they are to consider challenging for Europe is a new centre-forward.

The Toffees seem to lack a killer instinct which could have seen them pick up wins against Huddersfield, Wolves, and Bournemouth this season. It could even have seen them earn a draw yesterday.

Everton have still not replaced the goal threat that Romelu Lukaku possessed and must look at rectifying that fact in January.

The club were willing to pay big on the likes of Tosun, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Richarlison but may need to go even bigger to fix this problem.

If it costs £40 million, £50 million or even more Everton should try and find the funds to bring in the central striker they desperately need.
