Everton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin should be axed for Liverpool

Everton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin returned to action in the 3-0 away win over Cardiff City on Tuesday night and it marked quite a revival.

The 29-year-old played in his first Premier League match since December and impressed in the centre of the park.

He settled into the contest quickly with a number of tackles and blocks, while he proved that he can have a strong passing range when he’s on top of his game.

Schneiderlin has had a mixed time during his spell at Goodison Park since he joined for £24million (Sky Sports) in 2017, as for every good performance it’s seemed like he’s had a poor one.

But the French enforcer and ex-Manchester United ace can be a top-class performer when he’s playing well.

Everton host Merseyside rivals Liverpool on Sunday at Goodison Park and it will be intriguing to see who he selects in his midfield, which is likely to be a key area of the pitch.

There could be a temptation to stick with Schneiderlin after his revival, but it would be a step too far to expect the same against Liverpool just days later after returning from a long absence.

He could still have a future at Everton if his performances continue for the rest of the campaign, but against Liverpool it may be wiser to go with a trio of Idrissa Gueye, Tom Davies and Andre Gomes.
