Report: How Roman Abramovich may have played a part in Everton's next managerial appointment

Everton appear to be closing in on Rafael Benitez as their new manager.

According to the Daily Mail, the Toffees could land the 61-year-old as soon as this weekend.

This would make Benitez only the second manager in history to take the reins at both Everton and Liverpool.

Farhad Moshiri reportedly views Benitez as the best coach to bring Champions League football to Everton.

And he is ready to ignore the sections of the Toffees fanbase who aren’t happy about the club appointing an Anfield icon, added the Mail.

Assuming the last contractual details can be tied up, Everton will reportedly make an announcement next week.

Moshiri and Benitez have apparently met and both are eager on the idea of turning Everton into a Champions League team.

The report adds that Alisher Usmanov is also supportive of the prospect of Benitez managing the Blues.

And both Moshiri and Usmanov have reportedly received glowing testimonials from Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

He rates Benitez amongst the best managers he has employed at Stamford Bridge, added the Mail.

Everton manager: Hierarchy has made its choice – TBR View

Benitez is a controversial choice for Everton given his links with the Toffees’ city rivals.

However, it looks as though the Goodison hierarchy has made its choice.

Admittedly, Benitez does have an impressive CV and has done well throughout most of his career.

And if he does deliver silverware and Champions League football to Everton, then Moshiri’s gamble will have been successful.
