Marco Silva has praised Everton academy graduate Tom Davies for the way he has improved this season, as per the club’s official website.
Silva called Davies a ‘different player’ from last season and has been impressed by the way he responded to not playing so much last season to seize the chance this time around.
He said: “Even mentally, Tom in this moment is a different player. Last season he had some moments being captain and that was an important thing for him. It was a big pressure on his shoulders but it is important for him to feel this type of natural pressure in football. And he did really well.
“Against Tottenham he had a very good game again. We had some chats during pre-season. I was clear that our season would be tough and everybody would get his chance to play. It is a moment for the other players to show, ‘I am here, I am ready, I want the chance’. And Tom did that. He is taking his chance and I am really pleased to see it.”
TBR’s View – Davies has a real opportunity now to show the player he can be
One of the big questions hanging over Everton in pre-season was how well they could replace Idrissa Gueye and it remains unanswered now.
Davies is a different type of player, but shares the same hunger as the now Paris Saint-Germain battler and has a real opportunity to nail down a spot in Everton’s midfield.
Most Evertonians will be willing him on to grab it with both hands because it’s clear just how much he cares about the club.
