Jamie Carragher destroys Everton after defeat to Liverpool

Jamie Carragher has ripped into Everton for their display during yesterday’s FA Cup defeat to Liverpool.

The Reds reached round four with a 1-0 win despite fielding several youngsters against a full-strength Toffees outfit.

Given the nature of the two teams selected, Carlo Ancelotti will have viewed the game as a perfect chance to end Everton’s hoodoo against their rivals.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher believes yesterday’s performance by Everton was the worst in a derby game for 35 years.

Despite playing for the Reds throughout his whole career, it is well documented that Carragher grew up in a family of Evertonians.

He took to Twitter to slam the performance of Ancelotti’s men during yesterday’s defeat:

Everton were poor during yesterday’s game, although they could have been three goals to the good at half-time.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Theo Walcott were guilty of missing chances and things could have been so much different.

Liverpool’s youngsters came into the game, however, and it was a moment of magic from Curtis Jones that won the contest.

His goal was worthy of winning any football match and it’s a moment that will live long in his memory.

Carragher also heaped praise on Neco Williams, Harvey Elliott and Pedro Chirivella as well as the goalscorer.

It proved a proud day for the club’s academy but a disastrous one for Everton.

Ancelotti will have some serious work on his hands to pick his team up for the next game at home to Brighton.

He has revived the club’s fortunes somewhat since arriving but this represents a first real setback.

If the Italian boss can lead Everton to all three points against the Seagulls the Liverpool defeat will soon be forgotten.
