Everton are reportedly interested in signing on-loan Newcastle United striker Salomon Rondon in the summer – but Toffees fans are undecided.
The Daily Star claim Everton are waiting in the wings to sign 29-year-old Rondon, with the Venezuela international still on loan from Championship side West Bromwich Albion at St. James’ Park.
The former Malaga and Zenit St. Petersburg powerhouse has been in excellent form this season. Making 25 Premier League appearances for Newcastle, Rondon has scored nine goals and created five more.
The Express & Star claim he could be available for a bargain figure of just £16.5million this summer. But that clause will only become active if the Baggies fail to gain promotion from the Championship. They are currently fourth.
Everton are somewhat lacking in a centre-forward. Cenk Tosun has failed to prove his £27million transfer fee from Besiktas, while Dom Calvert-Lewin has shown in glimpses he can lead the line.
Oumar Niasse’s future at the club remains in doubt as he is on loan at Cardiff City. So Everton’s interest in one of the hottest Premier League strikers at the moment could well be genuine.
However, the Chronicle have claimed that Rondon has given Newcastle first refusal – meaning Everton will have to wait until Newcastle are told no. Everton fans, meanwhile, cannot decide.
