Everton have finally come good under Marco Silva as the season draws to a close. Recent home victories over Arsenal and Manchester United have given the Toffees hope that they can have a good season next time around.
The fierce issue that must be rectified during the summer is consistency and in order to improve on that, they will need a better squad. Silva’s first eleven is reasonable but the options from the bench are somewhat limited.
One player who has previously been linked with a switch to Goodison Park is Olympiacos left-back Leonardo Koutris, as reported by TEAMtalk.
Portuguese news outlet Correio da Manhã, as quoted by Sport Witness, are now suggesting that the defender will be available for £9 million.
Everton have Lucas Digne currently occupying the left-back spot. The 25-year-old has been impressive for the Toffees this season, proving one of their most consistent players.
The backup for the Frenchman is Leighton Baines. Once an England international, Baines is now 34 and will see his contract expire this summer.
That will almost certainly mean that Everton need a defensive reinforcement on the left-hand side.
Koutris could be the ideal backup for Digne. The pair share a similar style of defending, whilst news of his price-tag suggests that he won’t exactly break the bank.
Everton have a more pressing need to strengthen other areas of the squad. Koutris’ arrival would see them land a quality player at a decent price in today’s market. At 23-years-old there is still scope for him to improve and he would fit in nicely with the ethos that Silva is trying to instil at Goodison Park.
