Everton January 2013 Transfer Targets
Everton have had a fantastic 2012. David Moyes’ side are currently fifth the English Premier League 5 points above local rivals Liverpool.
However, the next month could prove a very nervous time for the clubs fans as the look to keep their key players at the club. The likes of Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini have recently been linked with moves away from Goodison Park. There’s no doubt Moyes’ main priority this January will be convincing these two to stay.
Despite this, I’d expect Everton took make moves of their own before the window closes. Here’s a look at the players the club has been linked with recently.
Jack Butland 19, GK (Birmingham) Joleon Lescott 30, CB (Manchester City) Salomon Kalou 27, FW (Lille) Kevin Gameiro 25, CF (PSG) Wissam Ben Yedder 22,CF (Toulouse) Scott Sinclair 23, LW (Manchester City)
Butland has been linked with a six million pound move away from St. Andrews and Birmingham and reportedly Everton are interested in the future England international.
David Moyes had earmarked Butland as a possible replacement for Tim Howard, who has come in for criticism this season.
Manchester City look set to be waving goodbye to Joleon Lescott in January.
Despite cementing a starting berth in the first team, Lescott remains unsettled at the Etihad.
Everton manager David Moyes has in recent weeks welcomed the chance to re-sign the former defender, who saw his stock rise at Goodison Park. Lescott is believed to entertain the idea of a return to the Toffees, where he feels he could reproduce his form of old.
Various Premier League clubs are on alert with Lille winger Salomon Kalou is considering a return to England.
The Daily Mail says Lille are ready to sell in January. The 27-year-old joined for free from Chelsea in the summer as Lille beat West Ham, Arsenal and Everton, among others, in the race to win his signature.
Along with these clubs, Everton could be tempted to take a look at Kalou again come January, but his high wages could prove prohibitive.
Paris St-Germain striker Gameiro, 25, has been capped eight times by France but is no longer a regular starter after his club signed Swedish ace Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is willing to sell but the club wants to recoup the £9m they paid to Lorient 18 months ago.
David Moyes is keen to sign the stiker in order to improve his sides chances of playing in the Champions League next season.
Wissam Ben Yedder
Everton are also targeting Toulouse attacker Wissam Ben Yedder.
However, the French Under-21 international has a deal until 2015 and Toulouse are unwilling to let him go for less than £6million.
He is currently his side’s top scorer this season with nine goals in 16 Ligue One games.
Everton are understood to be keen on signing Manchester City’s Scott Sinclair on loan this January.
The 23-year-old recently admitted that he wants “more game time” after making just seven appearances for the champions following his move from Swansea City in September.
David Moyes could now tempt him to Merseyside with the prospect of regular football, according to The Metro.
