Everton legend Neville Southall and Toffees cult hero Gary Lineker have congratulated Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp’s Reds won the Premier League title on Thursday night.

The Goodison Park outfit’s rivals beat Crystal Palace 4-0 on Wednesday to put them within reach of their first top-flight crown in 30 years.

The following day, Manchester City headed to Chelsea in the knowledge that failing to win would rubber-stamp Liverpool’s title win.

Christian Pulisic gave the hosts a 36th-minute lead and, while Kevin De Bruyne equalised in the 55th minute, Willian’s penalty 12 minutes from time settled it.

Liverpool have been dominant all season and have lost just once in the league, a shock 3-0 defeat at Watford in February.

Although the Reds’ march towards the title was temporarily halted by the suspension of football in wake of the global health crisis, they’ve now sealed it with seven games still to play.

Though Southall is Everton through and through, he took the time to congratulate Liverpool for their title win and for being the best team in the league.

Lineker, who enjoyed a hugely prolific season with the Toffees in 1985-86, also took to Twitter to congratulate the Anfield side for their efforts this term.

Everton are next in action on Wednesday when they host Leicester City at Goodison Park.

Liverpool, meanwhile, travel to Man City – whose two-year grip on the Premier League title has now been relinquished – on Thursday night.
