Everton have completed the signature of Fabian Delph from Manchester City. As reported by the BBC, Everton have snapped up the England international for a fee in the region of £10 million.
It is a deal which has received mixed reviews from Everton fans. Delph has a reputation as something of an underwhelming player and his injury troubles has some Everton fans doubtful.
However, one aspect Delph will bring to Goodison Park has been in short supply in recent times. That attribute is leadership.

It is something some big managers in the game have mentioned in the past. As reported by Goal last year, Pep Guardiola mentioned Delph’s incredible leadership qualities.
“He gives us character. He is a real leader in the locker room, Fabian Delph. That’s why I always give credit to the players for what they do.”
They should be no secret. Prior to joining City, Delph was the captain at Aston Villa. Indeed, Gareth Southgate handed Delph the England captaincy when Harry Kane was not available. As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Southgate held a similar sentiment to Guardiola.
“Fabian is captaining his country for the first time and it’s a huge moment for him.
“He’s an outstanding player and an outstanding person and a huge leader in our group.
“You wouldn’t give the England captaincy to someone who doesn’t have these outstanding attributes.”
Everton have struggled in terms of leadership in recent times. Wayne Rooney’s departure and the demise of Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines saw Everton struggle.
Last season, youngster Tom Davies was handed the armband at times by Everton boss Marco Silva. That showcased Everton’s lack of leadership options.
Delph, for all his limitations, is a galvanising personality in the dressing room and it will be no surprise to see him wearing the Everton captain’s armband at some point this season.
