Everton handed boost in Trippier race as Manchester United turn attention to Meunier

Manchester United have been credited with an interest in Tottenham’s Kieran Trippier by the Daily Mirror and Everton have been linked with the same player by the Sun.

After the Toffees thrashed United 4-0 on Sunday and the two sides could well be set for a transfer battle off the pitch for the England World Cup hero, who is valued in the Sun at £20m.

But now the Reds have looked elsewhere in their right back search, according to the Independent, who report that they are preferring a swoop for Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier.

They apparently feel that the Belgian might be easier to procure because of his contract situation with the French champions.

That could leave Everton with a free run at Trippier, who was outstanding at last summer’s World Cup as a right wing back but has experienced something of a slump in form this season in the Premier League.

Tottenham’s willingness to sell Trippier may act as something of a warning sign for the Toffees, but they do need competition or potentially a replacement for Seamus Coleman and the England international’s experience in the top flight could well be useful as Marco Silva looks to reshape his side.
