Amid the transfer stories doing the rounds, Everton fans may have missed out on an interesting story regarding the club’s scouting plans at the South American under-20 Championships.
As reported by the Liverpool Echo, the club’s youth scout Jamie Hoyland is off to Chile to watch the competition and report on potential Everton targets.
Young talents from Brazil, Argentina and Chile will all be in action and the club’s sporting director Marcel Brands has a rich history of finding talent in the Americas from his time at PSV Eindhoven.

Marco Silva is also a fan of finding players in South America. Indeed, Richarlison first came to light at this tournament.
After scoring twice in Brazil’s outing at the 2017 edition in Ecuador, Watford paid £11.5 million for the player. The Brazilian’s value went on to skyrocket at Vicarage Road. In the end, Everton had to pay £40 million for the player, as reported by The Telegraph.
If, however, they had snapped him up straight from Fluminense he would have cost them the £11.5 million Watford paid.
The hope will be that Everton can spot another diamond in the rough and sign him from South America, where the transfer fee would, therefore, be much less if signed from a European team further down the line.
With a host of top talents set to be in action, Everton will be hoping to find the next Richarlison at his original price.
