Everton have been handed another boost in their hopes of signing Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes, with PSG reportedly looking less and less likely to sign the player.
The news stems from a report from Le10 Sport regarding the future of PSG stalwart Thiago Silva. The French giants are looking to secure the Brazilian to a new deal despite previously deciding it was time to move on and find a new central defender. Gabriel was set to be a leading candidate.
That thought process has changed. PSG will now offer Silva a new deal as they are far behind in any potential pursuit for Gabriel. The report actually states that Everton ‘have the lead’ in any pursuit of Gabriel’s services.
The Lille defender has fast-emerged as one of Everton’s main transfer targets for the summer.
As reported by The Independent in March, Everton are in talks with the Ligue 1 side regarding a potential move for the Brazilian in the summer. He would cost around £30 million and would help fill the void at centre-back that Everton have recently suffered.
But the interest of PSG and other clubs, namely Chelsea (as reported by the Daily Mail), has seen Everton fans losing hope regarding the signature of the excellent Brazilian.
However, this latest report may suggest that Everton got ahead of the traffic and might just win the battle for the 22-year-old’s services.
