Everton are wanting to pull off a sensational deal to sign world-class goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma from AC Milan during the summer transfer window, according to Gazetta dello Sport.

The 21-year-old is being monitored by Carlo Ancelotti ahead of the window reopening as he goes in search of another goalkeeper.

Signing Donnarumma could prove a thankless task for Everton with the Italian under the renowned agent Mino Raiola.

Calciomercato have claimed that the possibility of the goalkeeper leaving in the summer is very real and believe a fee of £47 million is non-negotiable.

Donnarumma is paid £116,000-a-week at AC Milan but despite the sizeable sums, he’d be a gamechanger for Everton.

The youngster has kept 10 clean sheets in 24 Serie A matches this season and has already collected 16 Italy caps.

Signing a player of Donnarumma’s reputation would be a blow for Pickford who has maintained the backing of Ancelotti this season.

The Everton incumbent is hellbent on reaching the Champions League with the club, however, and he clearly feels a new stopper is necessary.

The uncompromising player has drawn high praise from legendary Italian stopper Dino Zoff.

During an interview with Calciomercato back in February, the man who played 112 times for Italy called Donnarumma ‘extraordinary’.

Realism

Everton fans will need to approach this rumour with a dose of realism.

Donnarumma could well leave AC Milan during the summer but his availability will probably alert several clubs – some bigger than Everton.

Pickford is the number one for now and it’s no secret that some competition is required.

Signing the 21-year-old would certainly make some clubs stand up and take notice of the Toffees but right now it seems a long shot.

Sporting director Marcel Brands has copped some criticism from fans in the past for his dealings.

With that in mind, landing Donnarumma might just win his cynics round for the foreseeable, however.
