Everton fans are certainly enjoying the fact their local rivals Liverpool did not secure the Premier League title yesterday. The Reds missed out despite winning 97 points and plenty of videos have been doing the rounds of Everton fans reminding Liverpool that they fell short in their pursuit of the title.
In fact, some Everton fans are even gleefully suggesting they cost Liverpool the title. The last time Liverpool dropped points in the league was a 0-0 draw against Everton at Goodison Park.
That game in March was certainly redemptive for Jordan Pickford, he made some excellent saves, making up for his error in the fixture between the two sides at Anfield, which Everton fans feared may eventually win them the title.
The fact a win in that game at Goodison Park would have won Everton the league is certainly not lost on Evertonians.
Andrew Robertson has also been getting it in the neck from Toffees supporters.
The Scotland international left-back was fairly irritated with Everton’s celebrations back in March. Speaking on Match of the Day after the game he had these words to say:
“They think they’ve stopped us winning the league today. Hopefully, we prove them wrong.
“Hopefully, our fans can rub it into them at the end of the season…”
It is fairly simplistic of Everton fans to suggest this one result has cost Liverpool the league title. But the fact remains, a win at Goodison would have given them the two extra points needed to top the table.
So it is no wonder Everton fans are happily reminding Robertson of these words.
