Everton midfielder James McCarthy is reportedly attracting interest from Crystal Palace – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter want him sold.
According to Sky Sports, Palace have submitted an £8million bid for the 28-year-old to try take him away from Goodison Park.
The Republic of Ireland international has been on the fringes under Toffees boss Marco Silva, but it’s unclear on if his exit would be sanctioned this summer.
McCarthy returned from a long-term injury layout in the New Year and made just one senior appearance in the second half of the season.
The central midfielder has played 133 games in an Everton shirt and is great at protecting the back four, but he’s been out of the picture for the last couple of years and a fresh move may make sense.
A selection of Everton supporters on social media believe they should cash in on McCarthy and accept an £8million offer for him.
The midfield enforcer is down the pecking order with the Toffees and a switch to Palace may give him the best shot of playing regular first-team action again.
He is still at a good stage of his career aged 28 and needs to be playing on a weekly basis.
Here are some Everton fans on McCarthy:
Not bad that only a £5m hit in 6 years bearing in mind his injury problems. Nice one Marcel 👍

Easy. Take it. He doesn’t owe us anything – shame his career has been blighted by very bad injuries.

“firm offer” and “fringe midfielder” says it all. I say take the 8m

Sell. Someone put it into perspective for me yesterday, roughly same fee as Delph, roughly same age as Delph, but despite also having injury troubles Delph has played a lot more games in last 3 years & won trophies. By that reckoning, Mings money doesn’t apply!

The guy hasn’t played in two years and wasn’t exactly pulling up trees before that, we should take 8 million and be grateful
