Ashley Williams has stated he does not know what his future holds at Everton as he enters the final stages of his contract – and Everton fans are keen to see the back of him.
Williams, 34, told the Daily Mail that he will look to discuss his future at the end of the season. A £12million signing (Sky Sports) from Swansea in 2016, Williams is currently struggling for game time on loan at Stoke City.
The powerhouse defender made 73 appearances for Everton in his first two seasons at the club. But the signings of Yerry Mina and Kurt Zouma last summer saw him plummet down the pecking order.
He said: “No conversations yet. I’ll sort to my own future at the end of the season. I’m out of contract and I’ve been on loan at Stoke, we’ll have to decide what I’m going to do. I’ll finish the season then see where we are at.”
Williams has since been on loan at Stoke City but under new manager Nathan Jones, he has struggled for game time. He has started on the bench in each of Stoke’s last eight league games.
The chances of Williams earning a new deal at Everton are almost zero, given his age and that he is reportedly earning a whopping £70,000 a week according to Spotrac.
Everton fans reacted to his comments which came before his outing in Wales’ 1-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday night, and many are desperate to see his name removed from the wage bill.
