Everton suffered defeat at home to Manchester City on Wednesday night – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter were left battled by the in-game decision from manager Carlo Ancelotti to substitute Tom Davies off.

The Toffees were beaten 3-1 at Goodison Park by runaway leaders Man City in the Premier League fixture.

Ancelotti’s side remain seventh in the division table and will be concerned about suffering back-to-back losses in the league.

Phil Foden opened the scoring for the visitors just past the half hour mark, which was followed by Richarlison netting a fortunate goal to level it before half time as the ball ricocheted in off him.

But Pep Guardiola’s Man City flexed their attacking muscles in the second half, as Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva were both on the scoresheet courtesy of accurate left-footed finishes.

Everton will need to dust themselves down quickly now though ahead of this weekend’s Merseyside showdown with rivals Liverpool.

A selection of Everton supporters on social media were stunned at the decision to withdraw Davies midway through the second half.

The 22-year-old central midfielder once again showed plenty of work-rate and aggressiveness, albeit it was difficult to get close to Man City at times.

But the Italian manager decided to go more offensive for the final 20 minutes of the second half by substituting both James Rodriguez and Josh King on.
