Rafa Benitez is one of four managers who has been shortlisted for the Premier League’s Manager of the Month award for August.
The Spaniard stands alongside Tottenham’s Nuno Espirito Santo, Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel and West Ham’s David Moyes, all oh whom remain unbeaten in the league so far.
Only Nuno at Spurs has got a perfect run of three wins from three, although Benitez stands with Tuchel and Moyes as having seven points from nine.
The Everton fans have been quick to praise their Spanish manager too, despite pre-season complaints at the appointment of the former Liverpool manager (The Mirror).
However, more months like the one that they’ve just had and Everton’s supporters will quickly change their tune on Benitez.
Not only has the ex-Real Madrid and Chelsea man helped the Toffees to an unbeaten start, but he’s also performed in the transfer market.
The signing of Demarai Gray for just £1.7m (BBC) has proved to be a steal, with the young winger up for the Player of the Month award for August (Club website).
It is a long season, though, and Benitez will need to avoid the fall that Carlo Ancelotti suffered last season.
The Italian had the Merseyside club sitting at the top of the league as late as the end of October last season, before the Goodison Park crowd eventually ended the season in a disappointing 10th, the lowest position they found themselves in all season.
The past is now behind us, though, and after a strong start, Everton fans will now be optimistic that Benitez can continue in the same vein of form and see them through a strong season.
