Everton fans slam Walcott after poor performance in defeat against Manchester City

Manchester City were always heavy favourites going into last night’s match against off-colour Everton at Goodison Park and so it proved with a 2-0 win to take them top of the Premier League.

Goals at the end of each half from Aymeric Laporte and Gabriel Jesus knocked Everton’s bitter rivals Liverpool back into second place – albeit with a game in hand – at the expense of City.

But it was generally a much improved performance from the hosts, and Marco Silva needed that after overseeing Saturday’s 3-1 aberration at home to Wolves.

They kept City at bay for large periods of the match, although seldom looked like scoring – and one of the reasons for that lack of attacking threat was Theo Walcott.

Walcott has struggled to impress all season and last night’s match ran along the same theme; it remains a mystery why Silva keeps picking the Englishman.

And that has not been lost on the Everton supporters, who took aim at him after the match for his quality, contribution and workrate.
