PSV Eindhoven took on Tottenham Hotspur yesterday in the Champions League and certainly surprised many with the competitive game they put on. The Dutch side picked up a 2-2 draw against the Premier League side and thoroughly deserved to come away with a point.

Their high pressing style caused Tottenham all manner of problems and resulted in two crucial moments in the game.

One Premier League club that should be very excited about the performance is Everton.

The Toffees appointed PSV’s sporting director to a similar role at Goodison Park this summer. Marcel Brands arrives with a fine reputation from his time at PSV and yesterday it was evident to see why.

Hirving Lozano, a man targeted and tracked by Brands from Mexican football, was excellent throughout. His pressing forced a mistake from Toby Alderweireld for the first goal and he then nipped ahead of Hugo Lloris for the Frenchman’s red card.

Right-back Denzel Dumfries, now a fully-fledged Dutch international, was a player tied up in the summer before Brands exited the building.

The likes of Daniel Schwaab, Donyell Malen, Pablo Rosario and Gaston Pereiro were also brought in by Brands and the latter three, in particular, are incredibly talented young players that the current Everton man saw potential in.

If similar talent can be lured to Everton in the years to come, then fans have a lot to be excited about.
