Everton suffered a surprise 2-0 defeat at home to Newcastle United on Saturday – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter agreed that the decision to put Ben Godfrey on the bench proved costly.
The Toffees missed the chance to go fifth in the Premier League table with a loss at Goodison Park.
Newcastle’s Callum Wilson scored twice late in the second-half to earn three points for the visitors, who went into the match in woeful form with no wins in nine top-flight games.
Everton are certainly in the race for a European finish this season, but it’s a big setback to lose both fixtures with Newcastle this year.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side have a tough set of fixtures ahead of them in February and a lot more may be learned about their season aspirations.

A selection of Everton supporters on social media felt that it was a poor decision to drop Godfrey.
The 23-year-old defender has been brilliant since his summer arrival from Norwich City and his versatility has seen him slot in at every defensive position.
But the £77,000-a-week defender dropped down to the bench against Newcastle, something that massively frustrated supporters.
He’s certainly been a big influence with his pace, aggressiveness and composure at the back when he features.
