Everton fans rip into Gylfi Sigurdsson after Liverpool hammering

Many Everton fans targeted Gylfi Sigurdsson on social media following the 5-2 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool.

The Toffees were comprehensively beaten by their bitter rivals, who started Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino on the bench for the clash.

The Reds played some of their best football of the season so far, and it was a sorry performance from Everton.

There were poor performances all over the park from the visitors, with Richarlison arguably the only player able to hold his head somewhat high.

The Brazilian scored Everton’s second goal and tried to cause problems for the hosts, but ultimately he didn’t get much help from his teammates.

One man a lot of Everton fans appeared to be severely disappointed in was Sigurdsson, who was wearing the captain’s armband on the night.

Sigurdsson has been disappointing all season, but at Anfield the 30-year-old was virtually anonymous.

Fans want someone to stand up and be counted for, and much more is expected of a quality player wearing the captaincy.

And to have Sigurdsson as captain. Not committed in the tackle, invisible for much of the game, all that talent and doesn’t use it. Meek. Made up when we signed him but he’s never an Everton player.
