Everton defender Mason Holgate is reportedly a transfer target for Manchester City – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have responded to claim they need to keep him at all costs.

The Mirror reports that reigning Premier League champions Man City want to make a £30million move for him in the summer.

It is explained that Pep Guardiola’s team could try offer John Stones back to Everton as part of a deal, after they signed him from the Toffees back in 2016.

But the report adds that the Merseyside club plan to improve Holgate’s contract with them despite interest in him.

Holgate spent the second half of last season improving out on loan with West Brom in the Championship and he returned in the summer with a point to prove.

The 23-year-old has taken giant strides forward this campaign and it would be odd to get rid of him in the summer.

He is a ball-playing centre-back enjoying his best Everton season to date, as he’s shown great form in his 25 appearances across all competitions and seems to be improving under manager Carlo Ancelotti.

A selection of Everton supporters on social media insist they need to keep rising talent at the squad, despite the intriguing possibility of Stones being used to try negotiate a deal.
