Everton have been linked with a surprise move for Real Madrid star James Rodriguez.

According to a report from El Desmarque, Carlo Ancelotti is keen to snap up the Colombia international in January having previously worked with him at Real and Bayern Munich.

The 28-year-old has apparently been deemed surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu, with Zinedine Zidane more keen to use the likes of Luka Modric, Isco and Fede Valverde ahead of him.

The South American, who transferred to the Spanish giants for a whopping £71 million in 2014 (BBC Sport), has struggled to live up to his billing over the past few years.

He spent a couple of seasons on loan at Bayern, but didn’t do enough to convince them to buy him permanently.

Now he is being linked with a move to Everton, who are supposedly prepared to make an offer of around £43 million.

The Toffees have been lacking in the creativity department this season, with Gylfi Sigurdsson particularly disappointing in attacking midfield.

The Iceland international hasn’t shown his best form, and Alex Iwobi has also struggled as the alternative ‘number 10’ option.
