A number of Everton fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from The Sun over the weekend suggesting that three Premier League sides want Mason Holgate, and he could leave for £14 million.
Holgate is well on his way to making this his most prolific season in terms of appearances for the Toffees. The 23-year-old has started eight times, while he has also been brought off the bench on two occasions.
There have perhaps been question marks about whether he will make the grade at Goodison Park. He has shown plenty of promise during his time with the club. But he is perhaps running out of time to prove that he can realise his full potential.
However, he did impress after a surprise tactical change at the weekend. Duncan Ferguson pushed Holgate into midfield for the clash with Manchester United. And it looks as though it could be a game that is remembered for some time thanks to his assured performance.
Nevertheless, there have been reports that he could be on the move in January. The Sun has claimed that Newcastle United, Sheffield United and Bournemouth all want the former Barnsley man.
The report suggested that Everton value Holgate at £14 million. But it does not appear that the Toffees fans are buying into the suggestion that he could leave for that figure.
Some admit that they feel that he still has a point to prove. But they have no interest in seeing him join one of their top flight rivals. And they have warned that there is absolutely no way that Everton should be open to selling him for £14 million.
Here is what some of the Everton fans make of the reports…
Not a chance we’ll sell him the way hes playin lately he’ll be startin every week

I’m not the biggest Holgate fan, but I must say selling him in our current situation would be ludicrous

I’ve never been a big fan and always said that he’d never be a top class CB but happy to say he’s been proving me wrong in the last few games, and yesterday he showed he can be versatile as well. Maybe his future is at DM? Either way he’s worth more than £14mil so do one!

Selling him would be a mistake. He’s proven himself to be a valuable asset. His future may be at DM. He’s got size, power, and pace. He can win the ball back and play a pass. I want to see him in the same role on Wednesday. 👍🏻
