Everton are reportedly interested in signing Weston McKennie from Bundesliga club Schalke – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter are keen on trying to bring him to Goodison Park.
According to German newspaper Bild, the Toffees are joined by Premier League rivals Newcastle United in eyeing the central midfielder, plus two unnamed clubs are also keen.
It is claimed that German outfit Schalke want £22.5million for his signature, as they try raise funds to cover the £177million loss due to the health crisis.
McKennie also said back in May that he dreams of playing in the Premier League: “This is my next goal. It was always my dream to play there,” as per Bild’s report.
The 21-year-old is a midfield enforcer that can help breakdown play in front of the back four and is aggressive with his tackling, something he’s shown during his 91 first-team games for Schalke.
He is one of several highly-rated American players that are making a name for themselves in European football alongside the likes of Christian Pulisic, Tyler Adams and Giovanni Reyna, plus he’s already earned 19 senior international caps for USA.
A selection of Everton supporters on social media are speaking positively about McKennie as a possible target and may have seen him in action, with Jonjoe Kenny currently out on loan with the German side and a current teammate of his.
Here are some Everton fans discussing McKennie:
Let’s get another American in the team ??. Plus, he’s young, determined, and from what I’ve seen, packed with potential ??
