Everton fans react to reported being offered midfielder Kevin Strootman

Everton have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Marseille midfielder Kevin Strootman – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter believe they should stay clear of him.

According to Sky Sports, French top-flight club Marseille have offered Everton, Manchester United and West Ham the opportunity to sign the 29-year-old this summer.

It is understood that the Ligue 1 side need to cut costs during the transfer window and are prepared to offload someone they signed for £23million last summer.

The report details that the Toffees do want to sign a central midfielder, but it doesn’t mention if the Marseille ace is a suitable target.

Strootman is an experienced midfielder that has played at the highest level and has 43 international caps for Holland.

He has made 34 appearances across all competitions for Marseille this campaign and managed five assists in return.

The Dutchman is a deep-lying playmaker that is comfortable in possession and breaks up play, something he did extremely well for ex-club Roma.

A selection of Everton fans have suggested that Strootman is past his peak and that there would be little point bringing him to Goodison Park.

The Merseyside club missed out on European football this season with an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League and will hope to improve next year.
