Everton are edging ever closer to signing Mainz midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin by the end of the week, according to Sky Germany.
They report that a five-year deal for the 23-year-old is in its closing stages and that the destroyer could have a medical as early as tomorrow (Thursday).
Gbamin looks to be Everton’s big hope to replace Idrissa Gueye after the Senegalese international moved to Paris Saint-Germain this week.
He is a younger, less experienced option who will need to adjust to the Premier League but can also play at centre-half, another position where the Toffees are currently a little light.

It could well be an exciting week for Everton, with Sky Sports reporting that a fee is agreed for Moise Kean, who could well be the answer to the club’s striking woes.
And with Gbamin looking all set to follow Kean through the door at Goodison Park, many supporters are getting excited.
They think they’ve got a good replacement for Gueye, with some suggesting that Silva’s squad can now push into the top six – or perhaps even the top four…
