Everton’s Under-23 side failed to hold on for three points against Arsenal’s second string on Monday night as the two sides played out an exciting 3-3 draw – and Toffees fans have reacted to Liam Gibson’s Tweet, after the defender scored.
A £6million (Northern Echo) signing back in the summer of 2017 from Newcastle, 19-year-old defender Gibson is in the final few months of his Everton contract. The England youth international has failed to make a senior appearance for Everton.
The Northern Echo claim Newcastle are keen on bringing Gibson back to St. James’ Park this month or in the summer, given his current contract position. Gibson’s future is in doubt at Goodison Park, despite his impressive Under-23 outings.
Following his goal for the second string – his second ever goal for Everton’s reserves – Gibson posted on Twitter stating it was good to be back after suffering a spell on the sidelines.
Good to be back😊 https://t.co/4M1IVxpHqa

Newcastle have plenty of options at centre-back, especially with captain Jamaal Lascelles returning to fitness soon. However, The Toon play three at the back and could need cover for the likes of Florian Lejeune, Federico Fernandez and more.
Everton fans are desperate to keep their teenage defender at the club, though, and many responded to his latest Tweet by urging Gibson to sign a new deal at Goodison Park, and end the speculation surrounding his future.
