Everton fans react to Jordan Pickford display in Sheffield United loss

Everton lost 2-0 at home to Sheffield United yesterday in what was an uninspiring performance from Marco Silva’s side.

An own goal from Yerry Mina and a Lys Mousset finish saw Everton lose to the newly-promoted side and continue what is looking an ominous start to the new campaign.

Plenty of Everton players were receiving stick after the game. The usual suspects such as Morgan Schneiderlin and Gylfi Sigurdsson did themselves no favours with poor performances. Meanwhile, Yerry Mina, Fabian Delph, and Richarlison also got plenty of the blame.

But goalkeeper Jordan Pickford also received plenty of stinging criticism.

Whilst many had sympathy with him for the first goal, suggesting he had been fouled, others simply felt the England number one was not strong or imposing enough from the Sheffield United corner.

For the second, Pickford set himself in a poor position after Mousset was played through. It gave the Frenchman an easy side-foot finish and some Everton fans were not pleased.

Pickford is something of a divisive figure among fans, not just for Everton but for England. This performance will not help him win over those who do not believe the hype.
