Everton are set to be without summer recruit Jean-Philippe Gbamin for much of the start of the new season after the Ivory Coast international suffered an injury in training.
He picked up a thigh injury that ruled him out of the game with Aston Villa on Friday night. Now, as reported by the BBC, it seems that the midfielder could be out of action for the next 12 weeks.
Gbamin only joined Everton in the summer. The 23-year-old cost a reported (The Guardian) £22.5 million from the Bundesliga side Mainz.
He was brought in as a potential replacement for Idrissa Gana Gueye, who was finally granted his wish of a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
But he arrived at Everton short of fitness after his African Cup of Nations exploits and has been building up to a full debut for the club.
Now it seems Everton are unlikely to see him in full tilt until Christmas time and it leaves the club hoping for Fabian Delph’s recovery from injury.
The news has certainly not gone down well with the Everton fanbase. Toffees supporters were excited to see how Gbamin might develop in the Everton first-team and are disappointed he will be out of action for such a long time.
With Morgan Schneiderlin and Andre Gomes both struggling in Everton’s opening three games of the season, fans hope that Gbamin’s absence does not prove overly costly.

Huge shame if JP Gbamin is to miss three months through injury.
While Gomes and Schneiderlin will likely keep their place, Tom Davies HAS to step up, at least until Delph is available. #efc

Gbamin isnt a loss its a blow. Lets be honest the lad has suffered a big injury blow but maybe time is what he needs to integrate into the country and demands of the Premier League. Step up Delph 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

Gbamin injury record…go figure! How much do we pay medical staff? This guy is clearly going to have Sturridge level problems with the thigh muscles for his whole career 😫 pic.twitter.com/pdRLorFkrB
