Everton survived a scare this evening to get past League One side Lincoln City in the EFL Cup. Harry Anderson gave the underdogs a 1-0 lead after 21 seconds but Lucas Digne’s wonderful free-kick and Gylfi Sigurdsson’s penalty had Everton in the lead. Bruno Andrade smashed home a superb volley equaliser before Alex Iwobi and Richarlison won the game for Everton.
The game was also Everton fans’ first chance to see both Fabian Delph and Djibril Sidibe in action.
The French midfielder started at right-back and played the full game as he tried to show what he can offer instead of regular choice Seamus Coleman.

However, it was not a flawless display from the French World Cup winner.
Sidibe looked shaky early on and certainly had to play his way into the game. He was then drawn to the ball for Lincoln’s second goal. The Frenchman should have remained on his wideman but instead challenged for the ball. It fell to Andrade, who fired home a stunning equaliser.
Some Everton fans were clearly not impressed by Sidibe’s performance. However, it was his first game with a new club and he did show glimpses of his quality throughout. Hopefully, in time, he will prove a consistent back-up option to Coleman at right-back.
